In the summer of 1999, Jeff and I purchased 20 acres of bare land on Central Oregon’s High Desert. We lived an off-grid lifestyle together with our combined six kids, ages 6 – 16, for a year and a half.

During that time, I taught myself the art of pyrography (burning art and lettering onto wood or leather.) I decided to focus on wood burning because it is a very unusual hobby that most people have never heard of. Eventually, I created a website called Portland Pyrography. And that hobby turned into a small business that I have spent many years cultivating. I’ve managed to generate quite a few clients over the years.

When we moved to Texas in early 2022, I had to change the name to be less Oregon-based, and that’s why my business is now called Lone Star Pyrography.

Surprisingly, many of my clients have been those mourning a beloved family member or pet who has passed on. These dear clients hire me to handcraft special memorial portraits with a tribute that they can hang in their homes as a remembrance.

Likewise, many businesses and organizations have commissioned me to create rustic logo signs, employee recognition plaques, donor thank yous, or other business art and decor needs.

My style is especially appealing to those seeking a rustic or handcrafted touch. Wedding guest sign-in boards are another popular item.
